About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct high-power laser research and development for national security and explosive applications
- Perform laser material effects data analysis and document technical findings
- Design and execute complex laboratory tests and kilowatt-class optical systems
- Provide hardware/software development, field deployment, and end-user training
- Represent the laboratory in discussions with government agency personnel regarding national nuclear incident response missions
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent U.S. government security clearance
- Experience with high-power laser research and analysis
- Proficiency in data analysis using programming languages such as Matlab or Python
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field
- Experience with kW Class IV lasers and high voltage components
- Proficiency with optical design and fabrication tools such as ZEMAX and Solidworks
- Experience using laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and data acquisition systems
- Knowledge of National Instruments DAQ and LabView programming
- Experience serving as a Qualified Laser Safety Officer
