About the role
Responsibilities
- Monitor Optical Long Haul and Metro networks and troubleshoot issues in a timely manner
- Engineer, commission, and validate backbone optical transport systems for new builds and capacity augmentation
- Evaluate optical performance using field measurements and network management system data (OSNR, span loss, BER)
- Deploy, configure, and test DWDM, ROADM, and optical amplification systems
- Develop and execute Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for optical circuit turn-ups and maintenance
- Coordinate with field technicians, vendors, and cross-functional teams to integrate optical systems
- Perform remote turn-up and acceptance testing, including power balancing and channel provisioning
- Document and optimize operational processes, including the creation of monitors, alerts, and dashboards
- Identify automation opportunities using scripting or coding skills
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.S/B.A) and 5 to 8 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working with geometrical and physical optics, radiometry, and lens design
- Understanding of optical design and tolerance analysis
- Deep understanding of stray light analysis and non-sequential ray trace tools
- Knowledge of building and testing optical systems
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with laser systems
- Experience with CAD software
- Understanding of design for manufacturing and/or assembly
