Optical DSP Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop realistic models for complex channels and impairment mitigating signal processing algorithms
• Run simulations and document results to verify functions and algorithms
• Evaluate and optimize design alternatives with respect to performance metrics
• Perform code development in MATLAB according to established coding standards
• Write general specifications, test plans, and verification plans
• Test and verify final hardware functionality in a lab environment
• Partner with software design teams and subject matter experts to resolve customer-reported issues

Requirements

• Masters or PhD in Engineering with a focus on digital signal processing, communication systems, or control systems
• Proficiency in MATLAB
• Knowledge of modem building blocks including DAC/ADC, amplifiers, analog/digital IIR/FIR filters, equalizers, and feedback control loops
• Familiarity with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of optical communication systems
• Exposure to an optical communications lab environment
• Experience with design tools including Linux, Git (Bitbucket), and Jira/Confluence
