Optical Designer 1

Responsibilities

• Generate design documentation including part and assembly drawings, BOMs, engineering studies, and test plans/reports
• Design, build, and utilize precision mechanical engineering test fixtures to measure opto-mechanical part performance
• Participate in the mechanical design of complex optical lens assemblies, from initial concept through to production
• Collaborate with Optical Designers and Manufacturing teams to optimize designs for performance, manufacturability, and cost
• Support manufacturing and suppliers to ensure effective knowledge transfer and timely resolution of design issues
• Present technical results during design review meetings for new lens designs and modifications

Requirements

• Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering, Fine Mechanics, and Opto-Mechanical design principles
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software, specifically Solidworks
• Proven ability in drafting and applying GD&T standards
• Experience with Structural Analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Knowledge of CNC machining, turning, and milling techniques
• Eligibility for Canadian government security clearance and Controlled Goods Registration Program
• Ability to work effectively in a mechanical engineering lab environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or an equivalent field
• P.Eng designation
• Experience with electro-mechanical drive design principles
