Optical Component Production Engineer

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance to the supplier base to manufacture NIF optical components
• Manage schedule and data management for fabrication and optical components
• Lead cross-functional integration to transition prototype devices to production-level manufacturing
• Collaborate with physics and integration teams to define device requirements and yield targets
• Conduct technical tasks for assembly, including material growing, finishing, and coating
• Perform root-cause analysis and yield-improvement initiatives
• Analyze vendor production control methods to improve quality and reduce cost
• Prepare written analyses and verbal briefings for program management

Requirements

• Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance
• Bachelor’s degree in physics, optics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field
• Advanced experience working with laser-based systems in research, industrial, or national laboratory environments
• Advanced experience in production of complex optical components
• Advanced experience in pilot-plant-scale operations and process development
• Advanced knowledge of transport phenomena and chemical kinetics
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of optical metrology software
• Advanced knowledge in ISO 10110 optical specifications
