About the role
Responsibilities
- Assist attending and resident physicians in the examination and care of patients within the Ophthalmology clinic.
- Take and record patient medical, family, and medication histories, as well as ocular history.
- Measure and record visual acuities and intraocular pressures.
- Evaluate pupils, estimate anterior chamber depth, and examine eyes for afferent papillary defects.
- Administer eye drops, dressings, and shields.
- Assist physicians during surgical procedures.
- Instruct patients on post-operative care and ensure proper documentation.
- Perform clinical tests including color vision, lensometry, exophthalmetry, Amsler Grid, and Schirmer testing.
- Maintain instruments, equipment, and a sterile environment, while managing supply inventory.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Successful completion of an accredited Ophthalmic Technician program.
- One year of satisfactory work experience under ophthalmological supervision.
- Certification by the Joint Commission on Allied Health personnel in Ophthalmology or equivalent.
- Current CPR certification.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to handle public contact with discretion and tact.
- Ability to prioritize work and determine if a situation is urgent, emergent, or routine.
