About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operating room during small and large animal surgeries, including surgical site preparation using aseptic technique.
  • Act as a circulating nurse to facilitate surgical flow, anticipate surgeon needs, and complete surgical checklists.
  • Operate non-sterile surgical equipment such as electrosurgical units, lasers, and scope equipment.
  • Maintain a sterile field by properly handling drapes, instruments, and supplies.
  • Clean and disinfect operating rooms after surgical cases to prevent contamination.
  • Manage surgical inventory, including capturing charges for procedures and supplies and communicating stock needs.
  • Maintain and organize surgical instruments to ensure they are cleaned, sterilized, and in good working condition.
  • Participate in the department on-call schedule and attend regular meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, completion of a Surgical Technology program, or an Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology.
  • Alternatively, a CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician) or equivalent with relevant experience.
  • Experience requirements vary by level (Technician 1: 3 years; Technician 2: 5 years; Technician 3: 7 years of similar experience).
  • Proficiency in aseptic technique and knowledge of surgical instruments.
  • Physical ability to lift over 50 pounds and stand or walk for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including kneeling, squatting, bending, and reaching.
  • Willingness to work on-call shifts, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
