Operating Room Relief Nurse

Responsibilities

• Provide goal-directed, patient-centered nursing care throughout the perioperative experience
• Implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans based on patient needs and surgical procedures
• Provide circulating nursing care for a variety of surgical specialties
• Assist with patient positioning and support care throughout operative procedures
• Prepare and administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital policies
• Document all aspects of patient care accurately within the electronic medical record
• Maintain compliance with AORN standards, hospital policies, and nursing practice standards
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary team members
• Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing
• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
• Ability to enroll in a BSN program within 6-9 months of hire (for ADN holders)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Previous Operating Room or perioperative nursing experience
• CNOR certification
• Experience in an academic medical center or Level I Trauma Center
• Experience across multiple surgical specialties
