Operating Engineer-Licensed

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment including electrical power, HVAC, steam, and water systems.
• Adjust manual and automated controls of building systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Maintain steam distribution systems and high-pressure vessels (up to 180 psi).
• Perform repairs on plumbing systems, refrigeration, and package A/C equipment.
• Utilize building blueprints to determine the location and layout of circuits, ducts, and piping.
• Use hand tools and power equipment such as drill presses, saws, and threaders for on-scene repairs.
• Participate in building system start-up, commissioning, and capital projects.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and complete required departmental paperwork.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License (or equivalent jurisdiction license pending local certification).
• Valid EPA Refrigerant License.
• 5 to 7 years of experience in power plant, facility operations, building maintenance, or building automation/controls.
• Completion of a recognized trade union apprentice program or technical training program (e.g., Stationary Engineering or HVAC/R).
• Physical capability to perform strenuous activity and work from ladders and scaffolds.
• Ability to read blueprints and comprehend written technical instructions.
