About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment supplying electrical power, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, steam, and water to the Medical Center complex.
- Adjust manual and automated controls of building systems, including Building Automation Systems (Johnson Controls, Siemens, Andover).
- Maintain steam distribution systems and high-pressure vessels (up to 180 psi), including replacing valves, gaskets, and gauges.
- Perform repairs on plumbing systems, refrigeration, package A/C equipment, and pneumatic tube systems.
- Utilize building blueprints to determine the location and layout of circuits, ducts, and piping.
- Use hand and power tools to perform on-scene repairs or work within the central shop.
- Participate in building system start-ups, commissioning, and capital projects alongside project managers and contractors.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License (or equivalent jurisdiction license with ability to obtain Chicago licensure).
- Valid EPA Refrigerant License.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in power plant operations, facility maintenance, or building automation/controls.
- Successful completion of a recognized trade union apprentice program (e.g., IUOE-399, LU-597, Local 73) or a recognized technical training program.
- Ability to read blueprints and technical instructions.
- Physical capability to perform strenuous activity and work from ladders and scaffolds.
