Opera Technical Director

Responsibilities

• Oversee scenic fabrication, installation, and technical rehearsals for the School of Music's opera productions
• Collaborate with student designers to create and install scenery for fall and winter productions
• Supervise technical crews and manage scenery installation within the theater space
• Supervise technical rehearsals and remain on call during the four scheduled performances
• Apply knowledge of materials handling, assembly, and safe rigging practices to all technical tasks

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• 1-3 years of relevant work experience in technical direction or scenic fabrication
• Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints
• Demonstrated knowledge of materials handling and safe rigging practices
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a diverse team
• Successful completion of a background check

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a university or educational theatrical environment
• Knowledge of OSHA hazardous materials safety standards
