About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and management for the 4B1 Adult Medical-Surgical Unit, overseeing nursing and support staff.
- Assist the Clinical Nursing Director in planning and managing patient care services.
- Supervise personnel activities, including interviewing, selecting, orienting, coaching, and evaluating staff.
- Maintain a significant presence on the unit through rounding on patients and families to ensure excellence in care.
- Manage unit operations, including staffing coordination, budget input, and payroll monitoring.
- Implement hospital policies, regulatory standards, and quality improvement activities.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create an ideal patient experience and integrate research into clinical practice.
- Rotate to off-shifts (evenings and nights) as required by staffing needs.
Requirements
- BSN OR an Associate/Diploma in Nursing with a Master's degree in Nursing.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
- Minimum of five (5) years of RN experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) RN experience in General Adult Medical-Surgical care.
- Demonstrated leadership experience (e.g., Charge Nurse, Team Leader, or management roles).
- Nurse Leadership certification (CNML or NE-BC) or the ability to obtain it within two years of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of recent general medical-surgical RN experience.
- Previous unit committee membership.
- Knowledge of University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers policies and practices.
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and clinical analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and ability to extract data from hospital databases.
