About the role
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with a team of physicians, PAs, and pharmacists to evaluate, admit, and treat patients with malignant hematologic diagnoses
- Assess and triage hematologic patients referred from external clinics, the emergency department, or other internal clinical services
- Perform physical examinations, complete medical histories, and manage documentation related to patient admissions
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies, medications, and treatments for acute and co-existing conditions
- Perform invasive and non-invasive procedures, including bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncture
- Coordinate patient transfers, family communication, and goals of care discussions
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary rounds, safety huddles, and case conferences
- Provide education and precept newly onboarding APPs, nursing students, and medical students
Requirements
- Current RN licensure and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan
- Current specialty certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- Current DEA registration
- ACLS and BLS certification
- At least 1 year of clinical advanced practice provider (APP) employment experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous advanced practice employment in hematology/oncology (inpatient preferred)
- Experience with bone marrow biopsy and/or lumbar puncture for intrathecal chemotherapy
- Previous experience in hospital medicine or a comparable acute inpatient care area
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clinical tasks with high attention to detail
