About the role

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with a team of physicians, PAs, and pharmacists to evaluate, admit, and treat patients with malignant hematologic diagnoses
  • Assess and triage hematologic patients referred from external clinics, the emergency department, or other internal clinical services
  • Perform physical examinations, complete medical histories, and manage documentation related to patient admissions
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies, medications, and treatments for acute and co-existing conditions
  • Perform invasive and non-invasive procedures, including bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncture
  • Coordinate patient transfers, family communication, and goals of care discussions
  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary rounds, safety huddles, and case conferences
  • Provide education and precept newly onboarding APPs, nursing students, and medical students

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan
  • Current specialty certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Current DEA registration
  • ACLS and BLS certification
  • At least 1 year of clinical advanced practice provider (APP) employment experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous advanced practice employment in hematology/oncology (inpatient preferred)
  • Experience with bone marrow biopsy and/or lumbar puncture for intrathecal chemotherapy
  • Previous experience in hospital medicine or a comparable acute inpatient care area
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clinical tasks with high attention to detail
