Nuclear Structural Engineer

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and calculations to support the design or modification of hoisting and rigging tools
• Provide engineering support for the fabrication of HBRR components
• Ensure HFIR structural specifications and drawings comply with DOE and industry codes
• Interpret and implement DOE Natural Phenomena Hazard codes and nuclear facility structural material design codes
• Perform seismic qualifications, analyses, and evaluations in accordance with DOE standards and International Building Code
• Provide project management support for the installation of design changes
• Provide written work package instructions and field technical support to craft supervisors
• Ensure engineering design documents are completed under RRD Configuration Management

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with a strong structural background
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in DOE nuclear facilities or commercial nuclear plants
• Proficiency in applying AISC, ACI, AWS, ASCE, and ANSI codes
• Expertise in material designs including steel, masonry, concrete, and cold formed metal
• Strong understanding of material handling practices and lift classifications
• Ability to work onsite in Oak Ridge, TN
• Must be able to meet export control requirements without a license

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. degree in Civil Engineering
• Experience with STAAD.Pro finite element analysis
• Experience with dynamic response spectra analyses
