News Editor

Responsibilities

• Guide the news day and develop the Al Jazeera English news agenda in collaboration with the Executive Producer
• Prepare and maintain the daily newslog and oversee international updates through all available sources
• Commission stories and assign tasks to news teams and correspondents worldwide
• Review and rewrite news scripts for packages, providing constructive feedback to reporters
• Brief presenters on interviews and live two-ways, and brief correspondents on story direction
• Liaise with the Executive Producer and Doha output team regarding live events and rolling news coverage
• Deploy to the field as a producer or news editor when required

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar news editing position
• Proven experience running large-scale news desk operations
• Strong knowledge of editorial and journalism work standards
• Experience managing workflows within a large global news operation
• Field news production experience is considered a significant asset
