About the role
Responsibilities
- Install network hardware, phones, headsets, and paging equipment in educational and professional settings
- Perform port migrations from old devices to newly installed switches
- Manage RJ45/11 cabling, cable runs, and neat cable management at end-user locations
- Install and rack Cisco Voice Gateways and Avaya PBXs
- Drill into drywall, concrete, and brick to mount devices and work on ladders at 6–15 feet heights
- Connect ethernet cables from UPS to new switches and document switch port assignments
- Participate in site surveys, document findings, and assist with post-survey quality control
- Transport and dispose of deployment refuse after installation
- Provide day-1 support and standby availability after device cutovers
Requirements
- High school diploma, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Reside within a 1-hour commute of job sites in the Austin/Houston area
- Pass drug test and background check
- 18 years or older
- Physical ability to squat, bend, and reach without limitation
- Comfortable working in hot environments
- Flexible availability for 4 PM – 12 AM and 8 AM – 5 PM shifts
- Willingness to work long hours with minimal breaks
- On-call standby availability for day-1 support after cutover
- Clear communication and ability to follow supervisor directions
- Understand and follow deployment documentation
- Experience with telecom circuit provisioning and port/jumper moves
- Proficiency with 66/110 blocks, punch-down blocks, and cabling runs
- Familiarity with Cisco platforms and device functionality
- Professional demeanor when interacting with clients
Preferred Qualifications
- CCNA or other Cisco certification
- Experience troubleshooting fiber uplinks and validating connectivity
- Proficiency in cable toning, port troubleshooting, and restoring devices online
- Own essential installation tools (screwdrivers, snips); cable testers, toners, crimpers, and drills a plus
