About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate and troubleshoot a globally distributed IP or Optical network.
- Perform fault isolation and resolution on Layer 0 and 1 network issues, including patch panels, optics, and cabling.
- Manage and escalate critical network events, communicating clearly with stakeholders and field resources.
- Serve as a Tier 2 escalation point for complex troubleshooting and incident response.
- Monitor network infrastructure queues and ensure timely ticket handling in accordance with SLAs.
- Contribute to network optimization through the creation of monitors, alerts, dashboards, and performance metrics.
- Document operational processes, SOPs, and maintain accurate incident logs in ticketing systems.
- Coordinate hardware replacements via RMA processes and manage network assets.
Requirements
- 3+ years of network operations experience, specifically focusing on IP and Optical networks.
- Expertise in Optical or IP networking with strong troubleshooting skills for Layer 0 and 1 issues.
- Hands-on experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG).
- Proficiency with enterprise ticketing systems such as ServiceNow or Jira.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Networking, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work autonomously in a mission-critical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ciena Optical Communications certifications (OC-A or OC-P).
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
- Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP).
