Network Engineer, Foundation & Support

Responsibilities

• Drive initiatives to enhance efficiency through tooling improvements in the pre-deployment domain for Backbone, Edge, and Optical
• Collaborate with cross-functional partner teams to define and automate optimal workflows for network pre-deployment activities
• Automate and integrate into the existing tooling ecosystem, including design bootstrapping and bill of materials (BOM) creation
• Proactively identify gaps impacting multiple organizations and drive execution plans to implement solutions
• Work with developers and program managers to design and prioritize tooling enhancements and fixes
• Perform detailed troubleshooting and engage with cross-functional teams to resolve system and tooling issues
• Mentor new team members to ensure quick ramp-up and technical success

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field
• 10+ years of automation experience in the networking domain within large-scale networks
• Strong knowledge of Linux OS and networking fundamentals
• Proficiency in Python
• Experience with network devices including routers, switches, and load balancers
• Experience with REST APIs
• Knowledge of Optical, Layer 2, and Layer 3 technologies
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) for software development efficiency

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize workflows and drive measurable impact
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices
• Knowledge of C, C++, Go, or Rust
• Experience developing or operating distributed systems at scale
• Advanced degree (MS or Graduate work) in Computer Science or a related discipline
