About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform design reviews, evaluate constructability, and conduct technical evaluations of structural analysis and load calculations.
- Design and prepare engineering reports, documentation, and charts to record results.
- Work with junior and senior engineers to create vessel and system designs, researching stability, hydrostatics, and seakeeping.
- Interface with classification societies and the USCG to maintain class and load line certificates.
- Manage weight control during vessel modifications and perform deadweight surveys or inclining experiments.
- Survey existing vessels to determine the scope of repair and maintenance activities.
- Perform vessel hull structure design for repairs, modifications, and new construction.
- Analyze vessel stability for cargo, machinery loading, and crane operations.
- Provide engineering support for marine equipment including cranes, mooring systems, and electrical/hydraulic powering systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or a related field.
- Proven marine background and professional experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or eligibility within the United States.
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical drawings and regulations (ABS, Lloyds, DNV, USCG, etc.).
- Knowledge of structural, mechanical, and electrical marine systems.
- Ability to travel or relocate based on business needs.
- Ability to access construction sites in various climates and environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of marine or naval engineering experience.
- Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, BlueBeam, MathCAD, Navisworks, RISA-3D, or MOSES.
