About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage all naval architecture matters regarding the design, construction, conversion, operation, repair, and maintenance of marine mining and sampling vessels.
- Develop naval architecture requirement specifications for general arrangements, basic class design, and detailed structural design.
- Perform vessel trim, stability, and intact/damage stability analyses, including emergency response support.
- Conduct specifications and analyses of vessel motions, mooring, and dynamic positioning (DP) capability requirements.
- Represent the client during vessel construction and conversion to ensure quality and warranty compliance.
- Provide assurance for marine certificates, safety plans, and powering/propulsion requirements.
- Support on-board stability and weight management activities and provide training to vessel crew.
- Liaise with Classification Societies and Statutory bodies to obtain necessary vessel approvals.
- Participate in cost-saving initiatives and support the development of project budgets and technical specifications.
Requirements
- Degree or Master's degree (M Sc Eng) in Naval Architecture.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering plus 5 years of post-graduate engineering experience and a minimum of 5 years specifically in Naval Architecture.
- Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with the Engineering Council.
- Minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience in naval architecture.
- Thorough knowledge of Classification Society Rules (e.g., Lloyd’s, ABS, DNV&GL).
- Strong knowledge of Maritime Conventions and Statutory Regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL).
- Proficiency in IT and related Naval Architecture software.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex technical information and drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership with a naval architecture or marine engineering related professional body.
