About the role

Responsibilities

  • Support the Nature Up North Project and collaborate with the Center for the Environment to expand environmental education opportunities.
  • Supervise undergraduate student interns, including academic-year and summer naturalist interns, in developing educational programs and digital content.
  • Develop and lead public environmental education programs such as interpretive hikes, paddles, and stewardship activities.
  • Lead programming for K-12 schools and youth programs, including designing place-based curricula and teacher professional development workshops.
  • Manage digital presence, including social media platforms, the project website, blogs, podcasts, and monthly newsletters.
  • Design protocols and support field data collection and analysis for citizen science projects.
  • Coordinate with community partners, schools, and university faculty to co-develop programs and support course components.
  • Assist with grant writing and project activity reporting for granting agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in outdoor or environmental education.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and multiple social media platforms.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with comfort in public speaking.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive university vehicles and obtain van certification.
  • Physical condition suitable for leading hikes and other nature-based outings.
  • Availability to occasionally work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Field research experience in environmental science.
  • At least 1 year of post-college experience as an environmental educator.
  • Familiarity with the flora, fauna, and natural areas of Northern New York (St. Lawrence River Valley/Adirondacks).
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, Illustrator).
  • Experience with R statistical programming, GPS, or GIS technology.
  • Experience with website development, podcasting, or videography.
  • National Association of Interpretation Certified Interpretive Guide designation.
