About the role
Responsibilities
- Work in a team of 2–3 to collect data and complete field sampling assignments using NRCS National Resources Inventory (NRI) methodology
- Follow established field protocols and safety standards during outdoor operations
- Learn and apply vegetation sampling, soil characterization, and other relevant techniques
- Maintain accuracy and completeness of collected data, ensuring proper entry, review, and upload
- Assist the Field Lead with navigation, 4WD vehicle operation on remote roads, and equipment care
- Support logistical planning and preparation for field hitches
Requirements
- High school diploma
- Experience working and traveling in outdoor, remote environments
- Interest in vegetation identification, soil sampling techniques, and data collection protocols
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
- Ability to travel and work a rotating schedule of 8 days on and 6 days off with overtime
- Physical stamina to walk long distances over rugged terrain and carry equipment up to 30 pounds
- Willingness to learn, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a team setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Progress toward a degree in botany, range science, soil science, biology, or a related field
- Prior experience in vegetation sampling, soil characterization, or related outdoor fieldwork
- Experience safely operating 4WD vehicles on paved and unpaved roads in rugged terrain
- Familiarity with NRCS NRI methodology and/or BLM AIM protocols
- GPS experience and ability to identify vegetation to species
