Nanophotonics Engineer

Responsibilities

• Use in-house optical design tools and techniques to develop new displays for augmented reality (AR)
• Support the development of novel optical design software for efficient analysis of advanced optical systems
• Contribute to the development of new AR waveguide designs suitable for high-volume, low-cost production
• Develop new optical structures and architectures to enhance AR waveguide performance
• Incorporate physical measurement data from nanostructures (SEM, AFM, etc.) into models
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to bring new AR waveguide designs to manufacture

Requirements

• PhD in mathematics, physics, or engineering, or 4+ years of relevant industry experience
• Experience in physics-based design and optimization
• Proficiency in Python for computation and optimization
• Experience using scripting to interface with in-house or commercial simulation tools
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative attitude

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of physical/diffractive optics modelling (FDTD, RCWA/FMM, etc.)
• Working knowledge of optical raytracing algorithms
• Experience contributing to collaborative codebases using Git
• Background knowledge in optics including imaging, illumination, geometric optics, radiometry, and photometry
• Experience with optical metrology techniques and the manufacture of diffractive or nanophotonics optical devices
