About the role
Responsibilities
- Monitor and patrol assigned museum areas to prevent theft, vandalism, or damage to artwork and property
- Maintain constant awareness of surroundings to ensure the safety of visitors and staff
- Enforce museum policies courteously and professionally
- Monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems
- Respond promptly to incidents, disturbances, or medical emergencies and follow established emergency procedures
- Report and document all security incidents, unusual occurrences, and maintenance issues
- Assist with the opening and closing of galleries and museum spaces
- Provide information and assist visitors in a courteous and helpful manner
- Participate in regular safety and security drills, training sessions, and inspections
- Support museum events, exhibitions, and after-hours programs as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods and respond quickly in an emergency
- Must pass a background check and complete required security training
Preferred Qualifications
- Some college or security-related coursework preferred
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or military service preferred
- Museum or cultural institution experience a plus
