Motor Vehicle Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and overhaul government vehicles including automobiles, buses, trucks, and tractors
• Diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle malfunctions using on-board computer diagnostic systems and test equipment
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, fluid checks, engine tune-ups, and radiator flushes
• Repair various systems including lighting, hydraulic, heating, air-conditioning, and fuel pumps
• Inspect equipment for mechanical defects and replace worn or defective parts
• Complete maintenance tickets and repair orders accurately and in a timely manner
• Install new vehicle equipment such as radios, sirens, and lights as directed
• Conduct road tests to ensure vehicle safety and dependability after repairs

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive repair and maintenance of light, medium, or heavy equipment
• Valid and current state driver's license
• Strong knowledge of gasoline and diesel vehicle preventive maintenance and diagnostic tools
• Ability to read technical manuals, specifications, and write routine maintenance logs
• Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing)
• US Citizenship is required to obtain necessary facility credentials
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and government background check
