Mortgage Loan Officer I

Responsibilities

• Interview and counsel members regarding first mortgage loans and take mortgage loan applications
• Manage the mortgage loan process from initial application through to closing
• Determine applicant qualifications and provide detailed information about mortgage and equity loan products
• Evaluate, personalize, and recommend financing alternatives to meet member needs
• Build and maintain referral relationships with realtors, builders, and other centers of influence
• Guide members through interactions to reduce effort and enhance loyalty

Requirements

• Experience in customer service, preferably in finance, realty, insurance, or retail banking
• Exposure to lending application and approval processes
• Familiarity with accounting, credit, and/or lending principles
• Ability to analyze and communicate complex written legal documents
• Strong mathematical calculation skills and accuracy with numbers
• Proficiency with automated systems, databases, and spreadsheet software
• Must be able to register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS), including fingerprinting and background checks

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of Navy Federal Mortgage Production and/or Servicing Systems
• Knowledge of mortgage/equity loan processing, closing, and documentation regulations
• Familiarity with VA and conventional loan program requirements and procedures
