Mortgage Insurance Underwriter II

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage insurance applications and supporting documentation
• Utilize automated underwriting systems and proprietary technology to evaluate risk
• Communicate with loan officers, processors, and stakeholders to clarify discrepancies
• Make informed underwriting decisions based on documentation and risk assessment
• Document underwriting decisions and provide justification for approvals or rejections
• Prioritize and manage work to meet deadlines and service level agreements
• Maintain knowledge of mortgage insurance policies, lending guidelines, and regulations
• Identify potential fraudulent activity in loan documentation
• Participate in system testing and validation activities

Requirements

• Proficiency with automated underwriting systems (e.g., Fannie Mae DU, Freddie Mac LPA)
• Experience with loan origination platforms (Encompass, Empower, Vesta, Blue Sage, or Calyx)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Thorough understanding of insurance risk underwriting principles
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards
• 2-4 years of experience in mortgage underwriting
• Experience as a mortgage processor managing and clearing conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience testing new technologies
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field
