Model Development Graduate Program

Responsibilities

• Perform research and development work regarding climate events and their impact on the built environment, including tropical cyclones, floods, and severe weather
• Quantify the loss potential of extreme climate events to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of modeling products
• Collaborate with hazard, vulnerability, exposure, and financial modelers to develop integrated risk assessment tools
• Participate in a structured rotation program to gain experience across various technical teams and disciplines
• Communicate complex analysis results and insights effectively to stakeholders

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD degree (to be completed by September 2026) in Engineering (Structural, Mechanical, Geotechnical), Computer Science, or Applied Math related to Building Science
• Strong foundation in the fundamentals of engineering analysis and design
• Working knowledge of programming languages used in model development, such as R, Python, Julia, SQL, or Fortran
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail skills
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with engineering analysis and design in the context of risk and resiliency from natural or manmade catastrophes
• Interest in the re/insurance business domain
• Proficiency with modern scientific repeatability and engineering scalability tools, such as GitHub
• Experience with high-performance clusters and working in a Linux/Unix environment
• Ability to work flexibly in a dynamic environment
