Mobile Core Network Engineer

Responsibilities

• Deliver and maintain core network services across global datacenters, ensuring high availability of PGWs, DRAs, GTP proxies, HSS, and STPs
• Design redundancy patterns including failover, active-active, and disaster recovery to drive service localization
• Manage the GTP proxy fleet and DRA infrastructure, including routing rules, IMSI translation, and peer management
• Build and maintain Ansible playbooks and CI/CD pipelines for consistent, repeatable infrastructure changes
• Operate and evolve the signalling plane (Diameter, GTP-C/U, SS7 MAP) across roaming partner interconnects
• Design and maintain network connectivity, including GRX/IPX peering, inter-datacenter tunnels, and firewall rules
• Build dashboards and alerting to monitor traffic growth and catch issues before they become incidents
• Participate in the on-call rotation for wireless infrastructure incidents

Requirements

• Solid understanding of 3GPP EPC architecture (PGW, SGW, HSS, DRA, PCRF, STP) and their interfaces
• Experience operating and troubleshooting mobile core network elements in a production environment
• Strong networking fundamentals: IP routing, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, GRE/IPsec, and SCTP
• Proficiency in Linux system administration, including systemd, network configuration, and performance tuning
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with monitoring stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager
• Proficiency with packet-level troubleshooting tools like tcpdump or tshark

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Diameter Routing Agents (freeDiameter or commercial DRAs)
• Knowledge of multi-IMSI SIM architectures, VoLTE/IMS, or roaming models (S8HR, LBO)
• Familiarity with IPX/GRX peering and GSMA roaming standards (IR.34)
• Experience with network automation tooling like Netbox or NAPALM
• Programming experience with Elixir, Go, or Python in a network infrastructure context
