Mission Operations Engineer

Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead technical authority for on-orbit spacecraft, managing the entire mission lifecycle from design and integration to launch and real-time operations.
• Lead spacecraft and subsystem engineers during launch and early orbit activities to commission space vehicles.
• Define mission concepts of operation, ground requirements, and design reference missions.
• Support ground segment design, including command and control, mission planning, and data processing infrastructure.
• Implement and test space vehicle fault detection, autonomy, and on-board command and control.
• Develop methods of operational automation to reduce day-to-day operator responsibilities.
• Create and execute simulator tests and in-factory flight vehicle tests to validate mission design.
• Form and lead anomaly response teams when off-nominal vehicle conditions arise.
• Design and validate mission sequences for bus commissioning, payload checkout, and calibration.

Requirements

• B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Software, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Mission Operations or a similar field.
• Experience with real-time satellite command and control.
• Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance (US Citizenship required).
• Willingness to support occasional off-nominal working hours during critical 24/7 mission operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. in a relevant engineering field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Mission Operations.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams to resolve anomalous scenarios.
• Deep knowledge of satellite systems engineering and all satellite subsystems.
• Experience with Spacecraft Command & Control software systems.
• Familiarity with scripting tools such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or Java.
• Active TS clearance and SCI eligibility.
