Middle School Special Education Teacher

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a classroom atmosphere characterized by high expectations and high support
• Plan and prepare for the effective implementation of a coherent, research-based curriculum
• Develop and use assessment data to refine curriculum and instructional practice
• Maintain strong relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues through frequent communication
• Improve practice through weekly coaching sessions and professional development
• Cultivate social-emotional growth by building a positive classroom culture
• Engage students in conversations about current events and community service
• Participate in school-wide events, family conferences, and tutoring

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree
• NY State certification, Students with Disabilities K-12
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to create an inclusive and positive classroom culture

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of teaching experience, preferably in urban education
