Middle School Band Director & Upper School Music Teacher

Responsibilities

• Direct two Middle School Bands and teach group lessons on woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.
• Teach High School music electives, specifically HS Band 1 and Digital Music.
• Direct school concerts and off-campus performances.
• Prepare students for NYSSMA solo and ensemble festivals.
• Support and sponsor after-school activities, including one after-school ensemble and potential private lessons.
• Collaborate with the Fine Arts Department and school divisions to support the IB Programme.
• Utilize learning management and student information systems for instruction and administration.
• Participate in faculty meetings, school committees, and assigned duties such as test proctoring.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education (Master’s Degree preferred).
• Experience teaching Middle and High School music in a school setting.
• Proficiency in teaching woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.
• Proven experience directing large ensembles.
• Experience integrating music technology into the classroom.
• Strong classroom management skills in large group settings.
• Familiarity with curriculum design.
• Strong interpersonal, writing, and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to the school’s mission, core values, and inclusion statement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Major in Brass.
