Meteorologist

Responsibilities

• Deliver accurate weather forecasts across multiple platforms, including traditional broadcasts, digital, and streaming services
• Partner with various TEGNA stations to create weather content that drives audience growth
• Provide coverage for morning, evening, and weekend shifts to meet staffing needs across different markets
• Learn and master the geography and unique weather patterns of multiple TEGNA television markets
• Create engaging weather explainers and stories for on-air, streaming, digital, and social media platforms
• Collaborate with a team of weather professionals to innovate weather storytelling

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science
• 4+ years of on-air experience as a Broadcast Meteorologist
• Expertise in severe weather coverage (e.g., tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, snow/blizzards, freezes)
• Mastery of weather graphics systems, specifically The Weather Company/WSI
• Ability to travel to cover breaking weather events or support other markets
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays
• Strong ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
• Proficiency in digital media, social media, and newsroom computer systems

Preferred Qualifications

• AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal
• Experience with live field anchoring and reporting
