About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop novel alloys and post-processing techniques to improve the performance of cast, wrought, and welded structural metals.
- Characterize materials using metallography, electron microscopy, and thermal characterization to assess microstructure and properties.
- Develop optimal heat treatment and alloying strategies to enhance performance for Army protection and lethality applications.
- Perform mechanical testing, including tensile, hardness, and impact testing, to establish structure-property-processing relationships.
- Prototype and evaluate new structural materials using various processing strategies.
- Document all processing, characterization, and testing results through detailed written reports featuring graphical and statistical analysis.
- Utilize machine learning models and standard trend fitting to assess alloy and processing improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical or Materials Sciences.
- 2+ years of relevant experience (exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered).
- Basic knowledge of materials and manufacturing technologies.
- Experience in mechanical testing.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Must possess an active Security Clearance or be eligible to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and/or experience in structural alloy development.
- Knowledge and/or training in welding.
- Demonstrated experience developing structure-processing-property relationships.
- Demonstrated expertise in structural alloy characterization and analysis.
- Experience as an author or co-author of publications pertaining to structural alloy development.
- Experience as a lead presenter at professional conferences.
