Metallurgical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop novel alloys and post-processing techniques to improve the performance of cast, wrought, and welded structural metals.
• Characterize materials using metallography, electron microscopy, and thermal characterization to assess microstructure and properties.
• Develop optimal heat treatment and alloying strategies to enhance performance for Army protection and lethality applications.
• Perform mechanical testing, including tensile, hardness, and impact testing, to establish structure-property-processing relationships.
• Prototype and evaluate new structural materials using various processing strategies.
• Document all processing, characterization, and testing results through detailed written reports featuring graphical and statistical analysis.
• Utilize machine learning models and standard trend fitting to assess alloy and processing improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical or Materials Sciences.
• 2+ years of relevant experience (exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered).
• Basic knowledge of materials and manufacturing technologies.
• Experience in mechanical testing.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Must possess an active Security Clearance or be eligible to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and/or experience in structural alloy development.
• Knowledge and/or training in welding.
• Demonstrated experience developing structure-processing-property relationships.
• Demonstrated expertise in structural alloy characterization and analysis.
• Experience as an author or co-author of publications pertaining to structural alloy development.
• Experience as a lead presenter at professional conferences.
