Metadata and Data Catalog Lead

Responsibilities

• Maintain and configure the enterprise data catalog platform (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Atlan, or Alation) to ensure high availability and usability.
• Establish metadata management standards, including data classifications, taxonomy, lineage, and glossary terms.
• Partner with data engineers, stewards, and governance teams to curate technical and business metadata.
• Support the integration of metadata from BI tools, databases, and pipelines into the catalog.
• Contribute to the automation of metadata enrichment using rule-based tagging or GenAI-assisted features.
• Promote catalog adoption by developing training materials and conducting onboarding sessions for end users.
• Monitor metadata quality and consistency to increase discoverability and compliance.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data cataloging, metadata management, or data governance.
• Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise data cataloging platform (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Atlan, Alation, Collibra, or DataHub).
• Strong understanding of business glossaries, data lineage, and stewardship practices.
• Basic familiarity with SQL and modern data platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks.
• Proven experience collaborating cross-functionally with data engineering and business stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting complex data assets.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with AI or NLP-based metadata enrichment tools.
• Experience using automation or scripting (e.g., Python, APIs) for metadata operations.
• Understanding of data governance frameworks like DCAM or DMBOK.
• Experience working within complex, multi-domain organizations.
