MES Engineer - Ignition/SCADA

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the existing Ignition platform, focusing on developing, supporting, scaling, and optimizing MES features.
• Apply MES principles to troubleshoot and improve production data flow, routing, and track-and-trace capabilities.
• Navigate complex SQL schemas and Sepasoft data models to build dashboards for quality, OEE, and production tracking.
• Design and deploy intuitive UI screens using Ignition Perspective to ensure an enjoyable UX for all MES users.
• Manage and optimize the existing Sepasoft MES implementation and scale gateway architecture using Inductive Automation best practices.
• Integrate manufacturing equipment, PLCs, and edge devices into the MES for real-time data collection.
• Provide direct technical support to operators on the production line during production hours.

Requirements

• Extensive, hands-on experience with Inductive Automation's Ignition platform, including advanced Jython scripting and Ignition Perspective.
• Strong practical understanding of MES theory, including flow execution, part traceability, OEE, WIP tracking, and quality control.
• Proven ability to work with database schemas and data models to compose queries and scripts for production decision-making.
• Experience integrating MES with enterprise systems (ERP/Inventory) using REST and RPC.
• Practical experience connecting Ignition to industrial hardware and PLCs via protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, or Modbus.
• A pragmatic, ego-free attitude with the willingness to work onsite during production hours to support factory floor staff.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience configuring or deploying Sepasoft MES modules.
• Certifications in Ignition Core/Perspective or Sepasoft MES.
• Hands-on experience interfacing with Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs.
• Experience diagnosing gateway performance issues and scaling Ignition deployments.
• Background in software development with a focus on version control and repeatable deployment strategies.
