About the role

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems.
  • Develop conceptual budgets, cost plans, and parametric models using historical data and market benchmarks.
  • Create estimate assemblies including labor, material, and equipment details.
  • Solicit, level, and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing to ensure competitive coverage.
  • Perform scope gap analyses to identify omissions and ensure full system coverage.
  • Evaluate and propose cost-effective alternatives for materials and construction methodologies.
  • Partner with architectural, civil, and structural estimating teams to identify design gaps and market risks.
  • Utilize industry-standard tools such as CostX, OST, Bluebeam, Revit/BIM, MII, and PACES.
  • Lead estimate reconciliation discussions with clients, design teams, and construction managers.
  • Review and validate MEP-related change orders and cost impacts during the construction phase.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree plus at least six years of relevant experience.
  • Deep expertise in MEP estimating across core disciplines (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or fire protection).
  • Proficiency with estimating software including CostX, OST, Bluebeam, Revit/BIM, MII, or PACES.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Ten years of experience in construction or estimating.
  • Hands-on field experience or direct experience in construction trades.
  • Experience estimating large-scale transportation, infrastructure, or complex federal programs.
  • Familiarity with multiple estimating formats and classification systems such as CSI or UniFormat.
