About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counselling, including biopsychosocial assessments and the development of comprehensive treatment and recovery plans.
  • Manage an assigned caseload and provide crisis intervention, supportive counselling, and advocacy.
  • Develop and facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic group sessions covering topics such as anger management, addictions, and trauma.
  • Offer mental health consultation and capacity building to other program staff and community programs.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client documentation in accordance with privacy legislation.
  • Coordinate with outside service agencies and government departments to support client needs.
  • Participate in program evaluation and the development of program content and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Master's degree in Counselling, or a related social science discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of counselling experience working with marginalized and diverse populations.
  • Current membership in a recognized professional association.
  • Proven knowledge of trauma-informed practices, recovery principles, and motivational interviewing.
  • ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) certification.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification.
  • First aid/CPR certification and experience administering Naloxone.
  • Ability to pass a vulnerable sector police background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingualism.
  • Experience with case management and group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the specific needs of women and marginalized genders regarding substance use and gender-based violence.
