Mental Health Specialist III

Responsibilities

• Participate as a member of a unit team providing acute psychiatric care for all age groups
• Assist Staff Nurses with patient care planning and staff assignments
• Monitor patient behavior and the therapeutic milieu for changes
• Assist patients with activities of daily living while encouraging independent behavior
• Observe patient interactions with visitors and during mealtimes
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment that respects patient rights
• Assist with the orientation of new staff and the formulation of patient groups

Requirements

• Three (3) years of relevant full-time paid experience in the mental health field OR one (1) year of experience combined with at least two (2) years of college credits in a relevant field
• Relevant background in mental health, social services, or human services
• Ability to monitor patient behavior and maintain milieu safety
• Ability to assist patients with activities of daily living
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment subject to unpredictable patient crises
