Mental Health Specialist III

Responsibilities

• Participate as a member of the unit team providing care for all age groups in accordance with facility policy and procedure
• Assist the Staff Nurse with patient care planning, staff assignments, and the orientation of new staff
• Observe patient behaviors and notify appropriate staff when necessary
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment that respects patients' rights
• Assist patients with activities of daily living to encourage independent behavior
• Monitor the milieu for changes in patient behavior and observe interactions between patients and visitors
• Assist patients and observe patients during mealtimes in the cafeteria and on the unit

Requirements

• 3 years of relevant full-time paid experience in the mental health field OR 1 year of experience plus 2 years of college in a relevant field
• 24-36 verified college credits in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related human services field (depending on years of experience)
• Ability to stand and walk for 2/3 of the shift
• Ability to handle unpredictable patient crises, including medical and psychiatric emergencies
• Ability to work in an environment where exposure to assaultive behaviors or bloodborne pathogens may occur
