About the role
Responsibilities
- Participate as a member of the unit team providing care for all age groups in accordance with facility policy and procedure
- Assist the Staff Nurse with patient care planning, staff assignments, and the orientation of new staff
- Observe patient behaviors and notify appropriate staff when necessary
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment that respects patients' rights
- Assist patients with activities of daily living to encourage independent behavior
- Monitor the milieu for changes in patient behavior and observe interactions between patients and visitors
- Assist patients and observe patients during mealtimes in the cafeteria and on the unit
Requirements
- 3 years of relevant full-time paid experience in the mental health field OR 1 year of experience plus 2 years of college in a relevant field
- 24-36 verified college credits in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related human services field (depending on years of experience)
- Ability to stand and walk for 2/3 of the shift
- Ability to handle unpredictable patient crises, including medical and psychiatric emergencies
- Ability to work in an environment where exposure to assaultive behaviors or bloodborne pathogens may occur
