About the Company

Inherent is a well-funded, fast-growing neo-lab dedicated to developing AI that explores “unknown unknowns” to uncover paradigm-shifting research contributions. We are building a new frontier lab to reinvent the AI research factory, focusing on human-machine teaming and recursive self-improvement.

Responsibilities

• Devise and hone AI for Science research settings amenable to open-ended exploration by AI Scientist agents
• Benchmark proprietary agents in AI for Science environments to improve performance via post-training
• Contribute data, evaluations, and expert opinion to improve core foundation models
• Close recursive loops by enabling agents to automatically deploy, debug, and repair themselves
• Work closely with scientific partners and customers, including potential forward deployment

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in hard science research, AI for science, data science, or industry R&D
• Experience applying ML to drive scientific progress in silico or in situ
• Demonstrated track record of success in research (papers, products, or open-source)
• 3+ years of software engineering experience with Python and a deep learning framework
• Experience using the latest coding agents
• Enthusiasm for experimental organizational design and agent-centric workflows

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in a scientific discipline
• Contribution to well-cited work in AI for Science (e.g., protein structure, weather forecasting, materials discovery)
• Hands-on experience using AI agents to automate scientific workflows
• Familiarity with post-training and harnessing foundation models
• Interest in meta-learning, open-endedness, or recursive self-improvement
• Experience building or operating autonomous labs
