About the role
Responsibilities
- Collect blood and urine specimens using venipunctures, arterial punctures, and capillary finger sticks
- Perform specimen collection in emergency rooms, hospital rooms, and outpatient areas
- Handle specimen collection in emergent situations such as cardiac arrest or stroke
- Identify tests requiring special handling and maintain specimen integrity (e.g., temperature control)
- Prepare specimens through labeling and decanting
- Manage patient reactions to procedures, such as fainting or hematoma
- Train new employees and students in specimen collection and computer duties
- Assist technologists with miscellaneous and clerical duties
Requirements
- At least 3 years of recent Phlebotomy experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Permanent authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
- National or state-recognized phlebotomy certification (e.g., CPT ASCP, NHA, AMT)
- Previous experience working with the VA
