Medical Technician Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Collect blood and urine specimens using venipunctures, arterial punctures, and capillary finger sticks
• Perform specimen collection in emergency rooms, hospital rooms, and outpatient areas
• Handle specimen collection in emergent situations such as cardiac arrest or stroke
• Identify tests requiring special handling and maintain specimen integrity (e.g., temperature control)
• Prepare specimens through labeling and decanting
• Manage patient reactions to procedures, such as fainting or hematoma
• Train new employees and students in specimen collection and computer duties
• Assist technologists with miscellaneous and clerical duties

Requirements

• At least 3 years of recent Phlebotomy experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Permanent authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

• National or state-recognized phlebotomy certification (e.g., CPT ASCP, NHA, AMT)
• Previous experience working with the VA
