Medical Technician, Microbiology

Responsibilities

• Receive and process laboratory specimens according to established policies and procedures
• Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system
• Perform preliminary specimen preparations, including centrifugation and homogenization
• Prepare smears and inoculate culture media following laboratory standards
• Maintain adequate stocks of reagents, standards, and control materials
• Perform limited testing under CLIA 88 rules and analyze results for errors or inconsistencies
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety procedures
• Retrieve test results for healthcare providers and answer inquiries regarding specimen handling

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must satisfy CLIA 88 qualification requirements for waived or moderate complexity testing
• Appropriate training or experience in clinical laboratory science
• Knowledge of laboratory/hospital information systems and automated microbiology systems
• Ability to stand, stretch, and bend for the majority of the shift
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree in clinical laboratory science, microbiology, or a related field
• MLT certification or eligibility
