Medical Support Assistant (MSA)

Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist Veterans, visitors, and staff with professionalism and respect
• Schedule, cancel, and manage patient appointments according to VA guidelines
• Maintain accurate patient records and update demographic information in electronic health records
• Provide clerical and administrative support to clinic staff and care teams
• Route calls appropriately and assist patients with general questions and requests
• Monitor clinic schedules, update no-show appointments, and manage waiting lists
• Support daily clinic operations including opening/closing tasks and correspondence management
• Ensure compliance with VA policies, HIPAA standards, and Joint Commission requirements

Requirements

• Minimum of six months of customer service experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
• Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute
• High School Diploma or GED required
• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card
• Ability to obtain and maintain required background investigations or clearances

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic understanding of healthcare delivery and medical terminology
