About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide longitudinal academic advising and individualized coaching to medical students across all four years of the curriculum.
- Implement evidence-based learning strategies and metacognition techniques to optimize academic performance and prepare students for NBME and USMLE assessments.
- Identify students at academic risk through performance data analysis and conduct proactive outreach and interventions.
- Assist in the development and implementation of structured academic remediation and improvement plans.
- Develop and deliver workshops and small group sessions focused on effective learning, time management, and cognitive resilience.
- Track advising utilization and student outcomes to support continuous quality improvement and accreditation requirements.
- Collaborate with faculty, course directors, and student affairs teams to ensure coordinated and equitable academic support.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Learning Sciences, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Instructional Design, or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience, OR a Master's degree in a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of learning theory, metacognition, and assessment design.
- Proven ability to analyze student performance data and implement targeted academic interventions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport in high-stress academic environments.
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and the promotion of emotional regulation.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in medical education or other high-stakes graduate/professional programs.
- Experience with medical student academic advising at an LCME-accredited medical school.
- Experience coaching, advising, or leading others in an academic setting.
