Medical Records Technician III

Responsibilities

• Assist in the record completion cycle by analyzing and validating deficiencies in electronic and hardcopy medical records
• Support physicians in record completion activities and process transcribed documents
• Coordinate release of information requests via telephone, mail, or online systems for internal and external customers
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with medical center, departmental, and legal standards
• Correct data entry errors or omissions within electronic health information systems
• Prepare notification letters and reports for Medical Staff and Administration

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• 2-3 years of health information management experience in an acute care facility
• Medical Terminology training (required or must be completed within 9 months of employment)
• Strong key entry and typing skills with proficiency in PC environments
• Advanced knowledge of medical-legal rules and regulations regarding confidentiality and information release
• Proficiency in multiple computer systems used within acute care hospital settings
• Ability to independently prioritize tasks and meet frequently changing deadlines
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and professional telephone skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with licensing, accrediting, and regulatory requirements related to HIM record completion
• Experience managing external release of information processes
