Medical Laboratory Scientist

Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of laboratory testing using manual and automated methods
• Evaluate and resolve problems with specimen collection and processing
• Maintain and document equipment performance, including calibration and troubleshooting
• Perform and document quality control and assurance activities
• Verify, edit, and enter laboratory data into the LIS
• Recognize and report critical values and document communication
• Process, package, and ship reference laboratory specimens in compliance with regulatory requirements
• Support operations by reviewing, scanning, and documenting specimens and manifests

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
• MLS(ASCP) certification
• Clinical experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis/body fluids
• Knowledge of clinical laboratory testing policies and procedures
• Knowledge of laboratory quality control and quality assurance principles
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment and routine maintenance
• Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently without sponsorship

• Previous experience with the VA
