About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination, sterilization, and cleaning of medical instruments and equipment using high temperature steam, low temperature ethylene oxide, and other methods.
- Execute procedures at multiple stations within the equipment re-use process with high attention to detail.
- Identify, sort, label, and inventory over 1,000 different surgical instruments.
- Manage supplies and inventory to ensure receiving departments function at optimum levels.
- Maintain the mobile Respiratory Therapy crash cart with necessary emergency supplies.
- Enter and update sterilization and processing records in a timely and accurate manner.
- Follow all infection control, sanitary, and safety protocols, including Body Substance Precautions.
Requirements
- Post-secondary certificate in Sterile Supplies Processing (including a four-week practicum) or completion of the CSAO course.
- Minimum of one year of full-time equivalent MDRD experience.
- Strong knowledge of sterilization/decontamination methods and microbiology principles.
- Knowledge of W.H.M.I.S. and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting between 6 kg and 10 kg.
- Proficiency in operating processing equipment and understanding instrument technology.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
