Medical Assistant

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care services including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, and accompanying patients to exam rooms
• Perform clinical tasks such as collecting patient history, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures
• Conduct laboratory procedures including phlebotomy, capillary punctures, venipunctures, and CLIA-waived testing
• Manage clerical duties such as updating patient charts, scheduling appointments, and verifying insurance coverage
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by setting up instruments, cleaning exam rooms, and managing biohazard waste
• Assist with medication administration, specimen handling, and electrocardiography as permitted by scope of practice

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
• Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Phlebotomy training
• Minimum of one year of recent experience working in a medical office or facility
• Ability to travel locally to various outpatient facilities in the North Chicago region

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
• Experience with computerized appointment scheduling
• Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with patients and physicians with discretion and tact
