Medical Assistant

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical duties within the scope of practice, including operating diagnostic equipment, performing EKGs, and collecting blood specimens via venipuncture or capillary methods.
• Prepare and sterilize medical equipment using an autoclave and perform quality control checks on equipment.
• Room patients according to policy, prepare them for examinations, and record patient care documentation accurately in the medical record.
• Assist physicians and nursing personnel with patient care, including wound dressing changes, staple removal, and administering non-intravenous medication.
• Organize, stock, and clean exam and treatment rooms while practicing standard infection control precautions.
• Conduct telephone and in-person screenings for patient intake and information gathering.

Requirements

• Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification (or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment).
• Current BLS certification for healthcare providers (required at time of hire or within 30 days).
• Proven knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and EMR systems.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Ability to pass Tuberculosis screening and provide proof of immunity to required vaccinations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis).

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
• Proven knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Bilingual in Spanish.
